Over several decades..

My first memory of Molly was in the early 1970s at Gosforth Tennis Club, nr. Newcastle upon Tyne. A group of kind ladies, led by Molly, encouraged us early teenagers to play tennis during the holidays. There was a a steady flow of organisation and encouragement followed by constant refreshment. Several decades later I was invited to play mixed doubles with Molly, now in Marlow. She still had some remarkable and winning shots ! The lesson I learned from her is that tennis can be a sport for life. Lifelong fun, exercise and fellowship. Her passion for the game was infectious. Her sense of fun was present equally on the tennis court or at a meal table. She would encourage many of us in a quiet, calm and understated way. I tried to reciprocate her kindness by inviting her to support the Chamber Choir I had joined when we performed in the local churches of Marlow or Cookham. Again, she was always supportive and seemed happy to attend whenever she could. More encouraging words. Whilst I now reflect, I think Molly has been a shining example to us all. To embrace our friends, to embrace family and to embrace life.
